The one thing I don't get is the moon lander itself. We don't have anything that can take off and land vertically like that even today, yet back then they seemed to be able to build one with no problem even without high speed computer controls or anything.
When those probes land on Mars like the rover, they just inflate a giant airbag around the capsule and bounce to a stop because building a lander that actually works is too hard, even today.

The lunar lander was operated manually by the astronauts. vertical landing on the lunar surface was indeed tricky....the lander itself didnt take off from the lunar surface only the pod atop the lander, it really was quite the engineering feat
