Here is my 2 cents, take it or leave it - i did this for a living for many years in mainstream (i have been to way to many conf's), and it got to the point i was about to go completely insane. REAL SOLID SEO IS NOT EASY, SO BE PREPARED TO INVEST ALL YOUR TIME. ALL OF IT.

PPC (Google, Yahoo - as geo targeted campaigns only - anything else, just send me your money to waste for you) taper down as SEM goes up, 400-500 wd pages keywords at 10-12% saturation top heavy, use h1/h2 tags, alt tags lite, understand the basics of meta, get lots of relavant back links daily/weekly (not link farms) - forget the spam blogs (thats adult, not mainstream), grab Fluid SE reverse engineer it and apply it for most of the 2-3rd tier engines, become an editor of DMOZ if you can (its rather worthless for ranks - but it will help you understand what its really all about - the way you write text will fast become king, DMOZ can teach you for free). Understand how important PR is, respect it and study the google alog. More content, more content - a site under 10 pages - blaaaa - worthless. Name your images correctly, learn to slice correctly. If your working with dynamic over static understand URL structure, still the battle will be harder. Forget the doorways, and BS tricks from old days that the old school farts hold on to - BUT go grab a copy of Web Position Gold and understand the fundamentals - read between the lines is what i am saying. Learn to write questions/answers to attract those surfers which are greater in number than you might think. Learn how to use sub domains and apply that to geo targeting campaigns PPC and Organic (focus on organic, but revamp PPC daily). Learn the power of mispellings. Unless you have serious skills and understanding avoid cloaking - Yes shockingly, cloaking still works. A new trick is to go to sites like getafreelancer or elance, or guru or whichever and go to the SEO/SEM sections see what everyone else is paying others to do - tada, there is a reason they are paying. Could do this for hours ... most importantly if your really trying to target mainstream avoid the lessons of adult - different worlds. If you see me at a show, say whats up - i love to talk shit, so id be happy to sit down and freely tell you all i know on this overly boring subject (just come with a Bud Light in hand).

OK, Ok - I am not trying to be a jerk BUT - No i wont provide examples of my work, no i wont work for you, and no i dont care if you think this post is full of shit. If you know a thing or 2, i should have just filled in a few more blanks.
