2001: A Space Odyssey - I saw it in theaters the year it came out...awesome on the bigscreen but loses a little impact on TV.
The first two Alien/Aliens movies raised the benchmark for sci-fi/horror.
Blade Runner (f/x ahead of its time)
Carpenter's remake of The Thing was great.
Planet of the Apes (the first Heston one)
