It's not that easy. The Taliban's main power source is the ethnic Pashtun areas of Afghanistan. People join the Taliban because of cultural and ethnic reasons in addition to religious and tactical/military reasons. Afghanistan, due to colonial boundaries, is a hodgepodge of rival ethnicities and Muslim sects/denominations. It is not that easy to militarily destroy a force with deep cultural connections to the region. I'm not saying it's impossible--it just defies simplistic solutions.
