Instead of tornado season you have hurricane season. It rains for like five minutes and never much longer. During the summer it rains everyday at 3 PM until 3:15 PM - you can set a watch by it, lol. I miss those long hard terenchal rain storms I use to get in the Midwest. Lightning is a serious killer down here.

Beaches are plentiful but the good ones always seem to be 30+ miles away - doesn't matter where you are. In the winter you can't go to store because it takes 45 minutes to go a block. Canadians and other "snowbirds" clog all the roads.

There is NO income tax only federal. Which means you might save a little come tax season. Its also insanely hot. Not really because of the temperature but because of the 98% humility.

Floridians totally blow off Halloween at least here in SWFL. I usually go back up north in October to visit family and get my secret fill of festive brouhaha. It never really feels like Christmas down here either. Kind of hard to get into the mood when its 90 degrees outside and people are stringing lights on brown palm trees. Yeah, the lawns usually look like shit do to lack of rain (during some seasons).

Native Floridians call themselves crackers. That's usually funny to first comers for at least 12-24 months. Cracker(s) means something totally different up north, lol.

So, all in all its okay but its differently not an escape.
