You should avoid the low prices. Focus on producing the best quality possible, and set your prices accordingly.

Once you have a decent number of references and GPL scripts, stop doing the underpriced work entirely if you can afford to. The quick, dirty jobs often bring more hassle than they're worth. Low prices mean you'll be dealing with amateurs, and dealing with amateurs raises the chance of running into drama significantly.

Meanwhile, dealing with professionals means you'll be making more money for less work, and getting better references. Spend the time you save getting better at improving your high-level skills, and build up an extensive library of classes to save work on future projects.
