My question is, how long does it take for your body to get used to doing the cardio and the same question for resistance weight machines (in case its different)? What Im trying to ask, is how often do I need to increase my training levels so Im building up my fitness and not just sitting on one level for too long?
Usually about 2 weeks. Do you need to burn fat? If yes then never increase your cardio training levels to the maximum. Increase time and stick with the level that is ok for your body and with which you're able to work out for x minutes.

Is it worth getting a heart rate monitor (you know those chest straps with the watch that records your heart rate) and then building up when my heart rate doesnt reach the same bpm?

Thanks in advance
Usually all cardio trainers have built-in heart rate monitors. Or you want to monitor heart rate during your power trainer sessions?
