I've been shooting longer than anyone in this post so no comments about not knowing content shooting. The best want to stay at the top, so they pay the most to get the best. As has been said producers set the prices. Some set them high to keep themselves at the top and others lower down.
What we should be doing is realising some girls convert traffic a better than others and a lot better than banners, galleries, fancy design or any of the other webmaster tools we have. They have that look in their eye, not on every third site in their niche/style, give a lot more to a scene, appear to be going the extra yard to give the guy they are with and themselves more pleasure. This leads to a better conversion rate.
Yes a lot depends on the people skills of the shooter, he's the director, producer, casting director and a lot of other things. Describing girls who do porn as whores says a lot. And not something a good pornographer should be thinking.
