I think the comparison is not very strong. He'd have done better to bring up the Spanish American War, the part when we cruised over the Philippines and killed all those... uh... "******s" is what we called them I believe. Almost all civilians. (American education was a little sparse back then too.) That was imperialism.

The L.A. Times is a piece of shit, though. I couldn't even read it when I lived there (except for the calendar section). I've gone to their site for an article exactly once-- and that was only because a house exploded right next to where my parents live.
