I would clip their nails first. I do it in the kicthen, use baby shampoo, warm water. Fill up both sides of sink with warm water before you get your cat, they don't like the running water. Use one side to wash and other to rinse, have a dry towel ready. Talk to they the whole time to claim them and always use one hand on their back to hold them down. If your incontrol, they will put up with it.
My cats even get the Hair Dryer but not all cats will put up with this. My cats still LOVE me! So no worries!
