A bigger issue for doctors is the costs they have to put out toward nurses. The shortage has increased their salaries dramatically over the years. Getting more nurses through school and into the marketplace would help lower health care costs a lot.
As for it coming from taxpayers, that's how our government works. We don't get things a la carte. I rarely drive but still pay for roads. I don't agree with the war in Iraq yet still pay for the costs associated with it.

That's a valid point. There is a massive nurse shortage right now. I'm also convinced there is a doctor shortage but I haven't seen any numbers on that...
