I was talking to be a lawyer the other day and he said that malpractice lawsuits account for less than 0.05% of the money going around. His point being that everybody always says "if malpractice lawsuits did not pay such ridiculous amounts in judgments, healthcare would be cheaper for everyone" and it isn't exactly true. I don't know if I totally believe that though... maybe the amount of money being paid out is only just a fraction, but then why do doctors always say malpractice insurance is so ungodly expensive? Either the doctors are lying or the insurance companies are making out like bandits... probably a little bit of both.
