I know you have to use at as the talking point, but it's not the reason most doctors have high prices. Malpractice insurance is small percent of their total expenses (around 7%). It's about the same as it was 20 years ago.
A bigger issue for doctors is the costs they have to put out toward nurses. The shortage has increased their salaries dramatically over the years. Getting more nurses through school and into the marketplace would help lower health care costs a lot.
As for it coming from taxpayers, that's how our government works. We don't get things a la carte. I rarely drive but still pay for roads. I don't agree with the war in Iraq yet still pay for the costs associated with it.
