Believe me, I've tried everything. I went through a period of about 8 months where I was phobic about sleeping at night, only felt okay sleeping in daylight, but I NEEDED to sleep at night. The melatonin/benadryl combo was the only thing I hit on that helped me.

You reminded me of something I should have added to my list. Either soothing sounds (which you can buy on CD!) of rain, distant thunder, crickets, running water, rain on the window, OR soothing music, Normally, I HATE ambient music, but it's so boring it's great for putting you to sleep. The music of Patrick O'Hearn or Harold Budd are particularly good for this purpose.
