I think this is why. Google loves fresh content. I've put up a new site, and had it rank #1 for impossibly competetive keywords (internet marketing). It helps I'm sure that google found the new site via links, so it had some link pop right away. Still, new is loved by google, and I predict his top rank will go away within a month.
