thnx for all the replies people. Exactly what I was looking for.

Ihave purchased quite a few cameras in the $200-$400 range and just feel that its time to move up a bit.

I take a lot of photos in the backyard or while gardening and I want them to look better. I also take a lot of city pics and pics of places and Id like to capture more of the view and better quality.

I even take a lot of close up insect shots and have wanted to move into better close up photography, so a real camera is a must. Also battery use is aggravating, I am hoping the better cameras have longer battery life and better technology behind their power.

Ive spent hours and hours and hours chasing dragonflies or butterflies in my garden, only to get a shaky and not clear picture.... we also have a lot of bees and flowers... and I enjoy taking pictures of them too, and need longer lens.

so thanks again for the advice, I am definitely looking into a few of the cameras recommended and wanted to see the Canon vs Nikon play out without making a "compare or vs thread"
