When being interviewed Dr. Atkins and his representatives continue to issue this challenge to their distracters: cite ONE medical study that shows or suggests the Atkins diet causes kidney disease, gallbladder problems or any other health risk.
They can?t! They can, however, cite opinions, speculation, innuendo, and antidotal examples, but no facts. While it is true that there are no long term studies (over 6 months) as yet available, doctors at Duke University and Harvard have conducted studies that show the Atkins diet superior to low fat, low calorie diets. And that the dieters, in addition to loosing more weight, actually lowered their bad cholesterol counts while on Atkins.
IMHO it is no coincidence that obesity and diabetes have risen steadily since the instruction of the food pyramid. In fact, the food pyramid does work, if you turn it upside down.
What if the government has been wrong for the last 20 years, perish the thought?
If you are really interested read this article that appeared in the New York Times in July of 2002. Don?t just skim the article. Try and understand the science behind the success of the Atkins Diet.

Stop dealing with ?she said?, ?I heard?, ?they think??..and read the facts above?..
You can drink on the Atkins Diet. After induction. The body deals with the alcohol first. Then the fat. So drinking just stalls the process. Michelob Ultra is a specially brewed low cal beer. Under 3 carbs per bottle. Miller Lite is also very low at about 3.5 carbs.
