Been on Atkins for years and I feel 10 times more healthy then I ever have. Cholesterol and blood preasure have droped big time! Blood sugar has normalized!

Just remember! Atkins is a lifestyle! Not a diet! Don't forget the exercise either.

Here are some things to consider and keep in mind when you start hearing all the people saying that Atkins is bad, etc, etc.....

People (and even some ill-informed doctors) often confuse ketosis, which is a perfectly normal metabolic process, with ketoacidosis, which is a life-threatening condition. The latter is the consequence of insulin-deficient subjects having out-of-control blood sugar levels, a condition that can occur as well in alcoholics and people in a state of extreme starvation. Ketosis and ketoacidosis may sound vaguely alike, but the two conditions are virtually polar opposites and can always be distinguished from each other by the fact that the diabetic has been consuming excessive carbohydrates and has high blood sugar, in sharp contrast to the fortunate person who is doing Atkins.

Almost everyone enters ketosis almost every day. Yet we're not all kicking the bucket. Morning breath is pretty much "ketone breath". As you sleep, you have gone eight to twelve hours without food. Your body is no longer running on carbs, but on ketones: broken down fat. Add to that the fact that you cannot burn body fat without breaking that fat into ketones. That is just how it works. If you are losing weight and not producing ketones you are burning muscle!

Now how about the people that say "The most natural diet for a human is a vegetarian diet" 100,000 years ago man-kind ate mostly meat. 100,000 years is not enough time for a digestive track to evolve to properly proces twinkies.

Preditors (meat eaters) have two eyes on the front of their head to help them judge the distance to their prey. Vegy eaters do not.

Now many say "Fat causes heart disease" The eskimo diet was 95% fat from whale blubber a short while ago. At that time, they never heard of heart problems. We introduce them to twinkies and now their dropping like flies from heart disease.

Now you hear this every day "Fat makes you fat" And eating sugar makes you sweet? Eating Nutrasweet makes you artificial? Eating cheesecake makes you rich? Eating Froot Loops makes you loopy? Corn makes you corny? What happens with a snickers bar? A hundred thousand dollar bar? Fruit? Junk food (sometimes called "crap")? Cheesy poofs? LOL!

The final result is....
If you eat great gobs of fat and carbs, some of the fat will be stored and some of the carbs will be converted to fat and stored. Skip the carbs and the extra fat is just not digested. Skip the fat and the extra carbs are still turned into fat.

Hmmmmmm. Think about it....

One other thing. Never cook meat at very high temeratures. That can cause transfatty acids to be produced. They are bad! Regular fat is good. Artificail (transfatty acids) are bad.

Hugs,
Danielle
