If I remember the original contract, you did sign a contract that renewed every year and did not cancel it according to the contract so the company have every right to demand the money, the only issue is if they waited to long to ask for the money which I doubt. So I think you would lose if you try to fight it.
You did a lot to promote them but that were with a previous owner and the new owner probably don't care about this. If I had to advise you offer them a $2,000 payment you pay right away to settle the issue. If they don't accept it agree to the $3,000 paying $1,000 a month.
Don't even start pursuing the issue with not signing with your legal name it might get you into trouble.
