Doesn't take into account companies with smaller work forces that are therefor not required to publicize the layoffs. Many states and local municipalities have laws stating that layoffs of certain sizes or from companies of a certain size must inform them that they are about to get slammed by welfare and unemployment.

Think of the 100,000's of mom and pops that laid off 1 to 10 employees. Makes that number look small...
