I remember being in England and going into a room marked "Bathroom" and finding myself face-to-face with a bathtub.
I started looking for rooms marked "Toilets" after that. Oddly enough, the usually-thought-inhibited English have
no problem saying "toilet." Even when they don't have to and a quick "Excuse me, I'll be right back" would have gotten them out of the conversation.
No, they say "I'm going to the toilet." Which was a lot harder to get used to.
