For an
ancient civilization they were advanced at a few things. Certainly not all. They had a calendar and an excellent series of astronomical observations and forecasts. They had some impressive architecture and art. They used hieroglyphs for writing but not an alphabet. I don't think they stand up well to the ancient Greek civilization though - and they came over 1000 years after it. As far as we know they never produced a military leader with the genius of Alexander, a political philosopher the equivalent of Plato, a moral philosopher the equivalent of Socrates, a scientist the equivalent of Aristotle or Eratosthenes, a mathematician the equivalent of Euclid. I could go on and on. We can't say so for certain as their writings were for the most part destroyed but it doesn't seem likely.
A fascinating culture but I don't see any reason to get carried away with over-veneration.
