You have to differentiate between the different types of chargebacks.

There are truly stolen cards or card numbers used without the owner's permission. (Nothing you can do but learn from each case and constantly improve your transaction monitoring and detection procedures. Don't rely on your processor to do it for you).

There are scumbag chargebacks where the customer received the service and just didn't want to pay or maybe got carried away and overspent then panicked when his wife saw the bill or it became time to pay it. (These fuckers can and should be sued but you have to identify them)

And of course there are also cases where the site screwed the customer and didn't deliver what was promised and wouldn't compensate or refund where compensation should be due and left the cardholder with no other recourse to get his money back.

I don't want to demoralise anybody but I have seen a 5 month old chargeback this month, and that's not the oldest I have ever seen.
