Agreed. World news is important and I check out BBC, CBC, The Independant and others every day.
But I think many people would be VERY surprised to see what local affiliates sometimes report. They often contradict CNN and the 'biggies" on breaking news in their area until someone seems to shut them up. One of the most startling examples I have seen to date were reports from local NBC and ABC affiliates in Oklahomo City during the time of the bombing of the Federal building. They reported ad naseum that there were multiple bombs in the building, that the Feds removed several more unexploded bombs, that there was a "john doe #2" and that Tim McVeigh did not act alone. They showed reams of interviews with local firemen and police about all these facts. Then a couple of months later, the feds rolled into town, and suddenly the local affiliates started to "tow the party line" though one affiliated continued on the original track and got some state senators to launch an inquiry.
