While there are probably a few violent protestors amongst the anti-war people, the overwhelming majority have been peaceful.

And a favorite tactic of the government is to seed any protest movement that works against them with "spoilers". In the 1960s, the FBI under Hoover infiltrated the Black Panthers and the peace movement and used agents to stir up violence and vandalism. The media of course zeroed in on these acts of violence (as opposed to the 99.9% of peaceful protestors) and thus tainted the panthers and the peave movement as a bunch of uncivilized malcontents.

In Seattle in 1999, the US Army delta force, under direction of the CIA, bused a bunch of anarchists into Seattle to "spoil" the WTO protests. The anarchists were directed to smash store windows and what not in downtown Seattle. Again, the media was manipulated (or maybe they were part of the plan) into filming these few rotten apples and the whole protest was tainted. The Seattle police then rushed the crowd to break a few heads.

Beware. If you get 100% of your news from CNN/Fox etc., you are being manipulated. At least cross-reference those sources with local affiliates who appear to be less biased as well as with independent news sources.
