That's the one good thing the US has in our favor.. We are the middle east of natural gas. If our dumb politicians would get this country changed over to using natural gas for our cars we would be off the tit of oil.
They wont be a cartel until they can control their flow, which I don't believe will ever happen. Gas wont be a export goods for much longer if you ask me (at least not for western europe) - It's simply not a cost efficient energy-source to transport long distances like that in those volumes.

I don't think Russia is playing any games. Gazprom simply just want the money they are owed, like any other company would. The EU will however probably lend Ukraine some money to put them in to further debt, which will just push the problem to next year. (thansk to the Czech EU leadership)

Ukraine have promised not to disrupt the Gasflow, but Poland and Hungary have reported a drop in gas pressure in their pipes. I wonder who steals that gas, since the the pressure somehow falls when it enters Ukraine.
