Why should Gazprom give Ukraine free gass? They wanted to be independant from Russia, but when it comes to paying the bills then its not as fun anymore

Has nothing to do with that.. Putin is trying to start a gas cartel much like OPEC is for oil, so they can control the price by controlling the out put. That's going to put Europe in a bad position and IMO they should be working on getting them selves off Russian gas other wise they will end up in the same situation as we all are with the Middle East and oil.
I am also sure Russia is playing games with the Ukraine just like they did with Georgia. I'm quite sure it's not just a deal of the Ukrane not wanting to pay for it.
That's the one good thing the US has in our favor.. We are the middle east of natural gas. If our dumb politicians would get this country changed over to using natural gas for our cars we would be off the tit of oil.
