Granting your members and only your members the right to use torrents as a fair use access tool (backup recovery timeshifting) would allow you to get rid of all the other torrents out there legally.
The point you seem to be making is that because some people are using the torrents for illegitimate purposes, (caused by your refuse to fulfill your members fair use right to the content) you should have a right to stop everyone from using it (including those who are using it for legal uses).

I doubt that setting up a storage option of my own would encourage the courts to see that I am providing an alternative to other storage options and therefore the rest are illegitimate.

I don't have an interest in the people stopping using torrents for legitimate purposes, I have an interest in stopping them from using them for illegitimate purposes. If that requires all usage of such to stop until a viable protected alternative is found, so be it.
Why must you get your missed shows from torrents rather than using a VCR or DVR like normal people anyway? How much TV do you watch?
