If the precedent is made not to protect the rights of the producer/author/etc. you'll see a sharp decline in product quality.. we are talking about huge companies, many jobs.

Why would somebody pay when the precedent is not do? There has to be some form of deterrent.
Is it our fault that they are spending 200 million to make a shitty movie? Sharp decline in quality? Look at the movies that come out today compared to the 90's, early 2000's and below...total garbage. There's like 1 good movie out of every 10 that come out and that's me being nice to the stats. You can make a good movie with a million $, it's just that so called stars charge 15 mill per film and directors and production companies blow their cash on meat head popcorn movies. It's mostly garbage nowadays so we are already there.
