It cost alot of money producing things like movies and books.
If the precedent is made not to protect the rights of the producer/author/etc. you'll see a sharp decline in product quality.. we are talking about huge companies, many jobs.
Why would somebody pay when the precedent is not do? There has to be some form of deterrent.
