Get ready for another dark ages then. I think it's been pretty well established that monetary compensation fuels innovation and creativity. The thought of people creating art for the love of it is a beautiful one and very noble, but it falls apart under the proof we see in the real world.

If people feel their works and their efforts will not be protected they will stop investing time and money into their work.

Think of yourself, if you knew every site you built would be immediately stolen as soon as you launched it, how long would you keep working???? Would you keep working for the love of it?? I doubt it and you shouldn't. People who create unique works should be protected.
