Yeah, I have a past with bluehost as well. They are one of those companys that asks way to much for way to little. I had a billing issue with them, almost the same as your friend. Contacted them and was pretty much told to go fuck myself.
Contacted hostgator, was up and running within a half hour. I've been there for a year now. Great customer support, and amazingly understanding individuals. If I need anything from them, all I do is call. Never had a problem, no downtime or bullshit. They do their thing, I do mine, its all good.
