ICQ is the standard in our industry. Some of us remember a time before ICQ and how difficult it was to chat with each other. I remember using something called talk.exe, which included looking up your IP address and emailing to the other person so you can hook up with each other.
These days I've noticed more people using Skype, and even a few people using Gmail's chat feature.
