There is a huge difference. Maybe "dumb, dead activist" isn't the the most appropriate headline but there is no comparison:
1) The activist stood in front of a bulldozer. She should not have been there. She entered the area at her own risk. She excercised her own free will.
2) This soldier did not choose to go try to help Somalis. He was doing his duty. In the line of duty he was brutally beaten, killed and subsequently mocked. That image is ingrained in the American consciousness representing our failure in Somalia, a very touchy subject (a little too Vietnam-esque). Consequently, recklessly showcasing that picture is disrespectful to the soldier, his family and every American.
