I got a new 3G Iphone about two weeks ago at the AT&T Store at a cost of about $300. The damn thing would drop calls, ring then go dead when you answered the phone and, sometimes, just ring once an quit.
When I bought the phone, the rep told me that if I didn't like the phone and returned it, I would have a $30 restocking charge.
Tonight, I took the phone back as defective. The clerk took one look at it and said, "I can tell this phone is bad within 30 seconds of picking it up." Then, he tells me he can't exchange it, only an Apple store can change out the phone. Then, he tells me that if I return the phone as defective, I still have to pay the $30 restocking fee.
I tried to explain that returning a "good" phone because I don't like it is different from returning a defective product that doesn't work. He just said Apple's policy is to charge the user $30 no matter what the reason.
