I can see why they did this. Sure there is freedom of speech, but he was at work making comments about other workers. If you worked at Intel and someone that worked in the company was now dating your ex and you said that they wouldn't just let it go.
the NHL is marketing themselves as "family entertainment" and I'm sure they don't appreciate this kind of thing. It is kind of like when the sports team suspends a guy who gets in trouble with the law. It has nothing to do with the team, but he is one of the public faces of that team and they don't like the reputation he is giving them by getting arrested.
