If you asked people who had just taken a tour if they believed more in God after returning, I think you would see a pattern.
Generally people have the tendency to wake up and realize there is no God, when you see you combat-buddi get blown both his legs of by a antipersonnel mine, or get half his head taken out by a sniper and you have to sit with whats left in your hands as he slowly die and you can do NOTHING about it...
