After Saddam's cousin died an Saddam took power one of his first acts was to call the members of his party together. While he sat, laughing and smoking a cigar a person at the podium began calling off names from a list. When a name was called, security removed that person from the meeting and that person was executed. There were 179 party members left when he finished. That is how Saddam delt with party members that he percieved opposed him and/or his policies.
I saw a tape of this meeting while watching a documentary on the history channel about Saddam's life from childhood, his rise to power and his party's rise to power.
During his cousins 12 year reign in power Saddam was a "hitman" for his cousin and personally assassinated people.
