I am doing a new machine up atm running Vista 64, Like you said 32 can take no more then 4gigs ram if you have more then 4 gigs running it can cause issues and affect things such as your FSB speed and more.
Lets face it a few decent apps running and doing anything else such as surfing the net is going to take around 1-2gig then you have other processes running kinda sucks...
