yeah thats exactly how HDCP works, when using the digital output of a bluray player.

Component output is analog, not digital. That is why it is 1080i maximum.

My projection tv will not do 1080p, doesnt have HDMI input. I use component video output to it, and watch my bluray movies in 1080i.
