Interesting thread.

We just planted our first vege/herb garden, and while theres a little learning involved its great that we are starting to harvest our own fresh herbs already and the veges are well on their way! We also are hitting the farmers markets that are springing up each weekend more now and its amazing how badly the supermarkets were ripping both us and the farmers off! When a farmer can sell us a cauliflower for $3 when the supermarket was selling them at $7, and each tomato costs us 40c, instead of fucking $1.50 ... and finding out that selling to us is still giving the farmer twice what he was getting from his supplier ... wow! People are just going to wake up and start cutting out the fat supermarket chains and start going to the source again.

I am not at the point where I need to cut costs, but just this year myself and my girl started to cut down our excessive lifestyle. We were churning through 8k a month without even breaking a sweat.. and after cutting down on expensive nights out, junk we didn't need, and being a little smarter with shopping plus cooking we have managed to make amazing cuts without much of a change in quality of life. Many others will do the same.

The main places closing down around here are the crappy restaraunts, most of the coffee houses like starbucks, and a lot of the trendy cafes, plus a pub/bar or two. The electronics and expensive luxury stores are also starting to drop too which can be expected, though most core businesses are hurting a little yet not as much because people still need basic things.
