you're right, if things get extremely bad, there is a possibility that our money may not be worth much. Although during the Great Depression, money kept its value... the problem was that there was not enough money to go around (according to Wiki: "Federal Reserve, by not acting, allowed the money supply as measured by the M2 to shrink by one-third from 1929 to 1933")
Now, if the money does lose its value, most of us will be indeed be in deep doodoo! I own a couple of small empty properties that I could farm to feed myself and my family, but they're small, so we'll get very skinny very soon!
