very sorry to hear about this. my condolences to you and your family.
unfortunately, with poor handling, miseducation, maintenance or oversight, guns can go off "accidently". it's generally oversight by a forgetful or miseducated user.
this is a good promotion for gun safety training. again, truly my condolences.
