so you can decode dtmf when theyre dailing on the radio or if the mike is very sensitive you can pick up from a few feet away on someones cell, if someone really wants to disguise who hes calling there are plenty of hardware tools for that

or if you hook it up to a radio receiver and watch 46-50 MHz (older cordless phones) and 870-890 MHz (cellular) you can grab the tones people use to access their bank accounts, social security numbers, all sorts of shit you normally access over automated phone systems.
Another fun and easy one is a POCSAG decoder. You can decode alpha pager messages. It's not as entertaining as it once was but there are still a lot of companies...and government agencies that use alphanumeric pagers (or so I have heard, I wouldn't personally do that or recommend doing that ;))
