"...AND LET LOOSE THE DOGS OF WAR..." - William Shakespeare.

War is as old as mankind and is never pretty. Sometimes, however a war, even a pre-emptive war is the right thing.

A few things to consider regardless of where you sit on this war. Iraq has been the aggressor twice in recent history, once with Iran once again with Kuwait. Iraq has never made good on it?s pledges of disarming from the last war. Weapon inspections have been a joke. Any weapons of mass destruction are hidden and without Iraq being forthcoming they would never be found. The only reason UNSCOM discovered anything was that the US and Britain held a gun to Iraq?s head and little tidbits were acknowledged for political reasons.

The no fly zones have provided for safe haven for Iraq?s minorities for 11 years. That has been paid for the UK and the US and was a poor response to the slaughter of the minorities in both regions after the last gulf war.

Whether the US has the legal right to invade Iraq depends upon how you read the UN resolutions. It can be argued either way.

History has demonstrated that a tyrant can best be stopped early. Saddam?s role model is Stalin, a tyrant of hahahaha proportions.

One more point on economics, this war will cost the UK and the US dearly in men and treasure. Since the intent is not to colonize Iraq and steal it?s resources those costs will never be recovered so oil is not the motive.

The real motivation is the realization that if Saddam is not stopped a future scenario will be even worse. This will not be pretty and innocents will die on all sides but the world will be a safer place after it is done. The bigger long-term question is how the other dictators in the region will cope if Iraq becomes a stable democratic country.

Bush is a lot of things and I do not agree with him on much but this will make the world a safer place for a while.
