The US and the USSR both contributed heavily to the war effort. To say either side alone saved Europe is incorrect. However, don't forget that Stalin had that nice little deal with Hitler to split Poland.

Some Russians don't think the soviet regime was that bad. However almost every Russain (not to mention Pole, Romanian and Bulgarian) that I've known thought communism was a joke. Also the facts speak for themselves that the communist system collapsed (and with a few exceptions it collapsed around the world).

Here's the simple test for rating "good" countries: Simply look at which countries have people immigrating vs. which countries have people emmigrating. If people flee a country in droves it is a "bad" country. If they flock to a country it is a "good" country.
