Canadian cities are consistently ranked in the top 20 best cities in the world to live in. Vancouver was ranked no. 1 (tied with melbourne) and Toronto ranked no. 4 in recent poll by the Economist. U.S. cities don't even rank in top 20. Canada is ranked 3rd by U.N. for best quality of life (Norway is no. 1, Sweden no. 2). U.S. is ranked 6th.
Yes Canada has higher taxes but has free medical, cheaper universities, and much less poverty and crime. Somebody has got to pay for this. What sucks about Canada is the weather. Its fucking cold for about 5 months of the year. Between May to October the weather is usually great, November to March you will freeze your balls.
The good thing about the U.S. is the climate. If you prefer warmer climate Florida is wonderful place to live. Yes the taxes are much less in U.S. but cost of living is much higher and no free medical. Also much higher crime rates in U.S. cities.
If you want cheaper taxes and warmer weather U.S. is best. If you want more safety, cheaper cost of living and clean cities to live in then Canada is best.
