TheUnited Fruit Company(us) ran the locals out of their jobs, by underbidding their work and products.
As a result of that Fidel Castro expropriated the properties of people associated with that company, and gave it back to the people.

The United Fruit Company was frequently accused of bribing government officials in exchange for preferential treatment, exploiting its workers, contributing little by way of taxes to the countries in which it operated, and working ruthlessly to consolidate monopolies. It uses what are referred to as "Economic Hitmen" making sure the country accept huge US sponsored loans, only ending up having to loose both the resources of the country AND pay interest of the loans
All was done to try and remove the socialist leaders on Cuba, and put someone less Communist friendly in power. But it only made them stronger.
