Typically most are not violent. Some however do have issues and can act out or be unintentionally violent (some can be down right violent but typically do not have active alone lives). Seems like he was on phone, kid was being a twat. He lashed out a bit - not trying to hurt anyone but in an improper way (very common) and the other dude knocked him the fuck out as he just saw some dude kicking at a kid (probably his).
I did not read the tagline - aside from the title portion in the right corner of the movie that mentioned IHOP.
