My furnace is old now but I'd rather pay the $150 for the part and fix it myself and cross my fingers that nothing else goes this winter instead of paying the $1800 I was quoted for a new furnace installed... Yet I can buy a furnace for $700. What I'm thinking about doing is just taking the time to find one with very close dimensions to my current one and putting a new one in next year.
I've started doing things myself for a while now. This past summer my hot water heater went out on me and I didn't want to wait for a repairman so I took my dads truck to the store and bought a hot water heater and put it in myself. Who wants to go a week without hot water?
SO much of this shit is simple logic that can be figured out easily.
My wife had unplugged one of the 3 electric radiators yesterday to move it so it was off all night and DAMN was it ever cold this morning when I walked to the bathroom. It was 58 in the house (68 in bedroom with heater) When all 3 radiators are running it stays plenty warm.
